Steve Patten is a Professor of Political Science and Associate Dean of Research in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Alberta. His teaching and research focus on the evolving character of Canadian conservatism, party politics, Alberta politics, and the challenges of deepening democracy in policymaking. He is coeditor (with Lois Harder) of Patriation and Its Consequences: Constitution-Making in Canada (UBC Press, 2015). Other recent publications include papers on (i) the use of databases and microtargeting in election campaigns, (ii) the rise of ‘market-oriented’ politics and the permanent campaign in Canada, and (iii) an examination of public engagement in environmental policy-making in Alberta.
